Petrus Kruger, is a young musician from the Eastern Cape who now resides in Durbanville, Cape Town.
He has been extremely interested in music for as long as he can remember. He grew up in a house with a very old piano which he was constantly playing until the age of 9 and started taking music lessons professionally. At first I started with piano lessons after which I started taking Vocal, Cello and later progressed to Violin as well. Even though he grew up in a small town in the Eastern Cape, he attended music lessons in Bloemfontein, in the Free State.
Petrus moved to Bloemfontein for his High School career and really which then afforded him the opportunity to invest in his musical interest at the time. Had piano lessons under the instruction of Mrs Inez Ferreira, cello with Mrs Tilla Henkens and vocal lessons with Leana Lötter which was all primarily classical training. During my High School career he attended the Stellenbosch Chamber Music Festival where he played Cello for the Free State Youth Orchestra as well as playing for the Botchabela String Orchestra under the direction of Mr Peter Guy. During his time performing with the BSO, he had the opportunity to do a performance with the Kwazulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra as well as travelling to Belgium to perform a series of concerts there with a local youth orchestra.
He completed his Gr 8 Classical Piano through Trinity College of London at the age of 17 years old. After having finished high school, moved to Cape Town and attend piano lessons with Prof Albie van Schalkwyn and vocal lessons with Mrs Hanna van Schalkwyk. In his time there he developed an extreme fondness for art song.
After having moved to Durbanville quite recently, he started playing in his church band and became exposed to a whole new genre of worship music – and loving every minute of it!
I am currently a full time music teacher in Durbanville with a growing passion for bringing music to people.
